Parent & Carer Power: Helping your young person to bounce back

Michelle Bloyce, Healthy Schools Advisor and Sara Petty, Public Health Officer provided a workshop offering tips for supporting your young person when events in their world begin to feel overwhelming. Whether it’s exams, friendships, family dynamics, or being bullied, resilience is a key skill to help young people bounce back.

This session is for parents and carers and is a repeat of the 30th March session.

On 13th July 6:00pm we had a representative from UCAS deliver this webinar for parents and carers to find out all they need to know about university applications. This session covered: UCAS, key dates, how to apply, UCAS Hub and how to support those applying.

On 23rd May, Safia Butt from West Herts College presented this webinar to parents and carers on education options post-16. This session was helpful to parents and carers supporting their young person preparing for GCSEs next year but not sure of their next steps. The session discussed flexible pathways open to young people and helped parents and carers gain the knowledge needed to have these conversations with their child/young person.

Teacher and Advisor Webinar: Getting Ready for 2023

On 15th June 3:45 pm

We invited UCAS to update teachers and advisors about changes and the latest updates in university and apprenticeship applications for the 2023 intake.
The session was delivered by UCAS and included getting ready for 2023: UCAS hub, apprenticeship I&A, supporting your students and signpost to resources. Attendees were able to find out the latest information from UCAS and get their questions answered.

Understanding Contextual Admissions

On 24th November we held our first joint webinar.  The session explained how contextual admissions enable students from different backgrounds to progress to university. It was presented by Ella Adlard, Senior Education Outreach Officer at the University of Leeds and attended by 18 institutions across our consortia. Student Finance

On 8th December from 3:45 to 4:45 pm we held our second webinar.  The session explained student loan applications and what support teachers and advisers can give their students to ensure that they are prepared well in advance. It provided a general overview of Student Finance and tailored to school staff and some parents present.  It was presented by Ahmar Ehsan from the Student Loans Company.

Understanding UCAS Data and Developments

On 7th January from 3:45 to 4:45 pm Charlie Smith, Digital Learning Developer from UCAS delivered this webinar.  The session covered different resources for teachers to support their students and changes to reference guidance for 21/22. He looked at how COVID continues to impact admissions plus gave teachers and advisers an opportunity to ask UCAS any questions.

On 8th and 23rd June Aspire Higher and Study Higher bring you two online webinars on Supporting Service Children, delivered by Service Children’s Progression Alliance Oxfordshire and Central England Hub. The sessions will inform participants about the Thriving Lives Toolkit. You will hear about the seven principles of effective support, the SCiP alliance’s UK wide Hub Network and how to utilise the Thriving Lives Toolkit. The second session will explore more deeply the context of service children in Aspire Higher and Study Higher regions and allow participants to reflect on best practice.

Transition To Higher Education Staff CPD

Aspire Higher have created a handy staff CPD training session to develop staff confidence and awareness of the higher education landscape, to enable class teachers and form tutors to have more in-depth conversations with KS2, 3 and 4 children. Aspire Higher are currently developing student workshops which will support the presentation, available to Aspire Higher schools in Northamptonshire.
