Meet the Employer – Amy Merrington – Assistant Buyer at Tesco
In partnership with a number of professionals spanning across different industries, Aspire Higher have created a series of ‘Meet the Employer’ videos. In this video, Amy Merrington tells us what is involved in her job as an Assistant Buyer at Tesco.
She covers how her A level choices as a student at Laureate Academy helped her develop skills that are now useful in her role, and how even seemingly unrelated subjects like Drama can be key in developing those employability skills. She discusses how her interest in food led to her degree choice and current career path but how varied the subjects and training of fellow Buyers can be.
She also covers the key skills required for a career in buying and gives some advice as to additional things you can do to gain more skills outside of school.
