Information and Additional Resources

Accessibility

Access and accessibility are at the heart of everything we do and we aim to ensure every student who wishes to attend our events can do so and enjoy them to their full extent. We will be moving around the campus throughout the day but we with notice we can ensure this is accessible to all. Please let us know if you have any students with particular accessibility needs, in good time so that we can make the required arrangements.

Campus Map

If students would like to explore the university before their visit they can access an interactive online map.

Clothing/footwear

Students will spend a large portion of the day out on our campus, and as such should be encouraged to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for the expected weather conditions. Much of the day will be on the move, so please encourage comfortable walking shoes.

Event Overview

The Year 12 Wayfinder Day aims to provide information, advice, and guidance on HE. The event will incorporate all the workshops that students in Year 12 might need in preparation for the year ahead.

This includes an introduction to UCAS applications, student finance and budgeting, personal statements, student life, choosing a course and a Student Q&A which aims to answer any questions your students may have about university.

This event is aimed at year 12 students, whether they are thinking about university or not, and will run across 4.5 hours.

Our aim is to make this visit a fun and informative opportunity to help your students increase their knowledge of higher education and encourage those from underrepresented groups to consider it as an option for them.

Lunch

Students:

We ask that the students are reminded to bring a packed lunch on the day or come prepared to purchase lunch. We will be taking students to the on-campus canteen for their lunch break and during this time students remain the responsibility of the school staff. Please note our campuses operate a cashless system so any purchases will need to be done on a card. Queues can be very long, so students are encouraged to bring their own lunch if possible.

Please provide students with a contact phone number of a member of staff who will be on the trip for them to use in case of emergency.

Risk Assessment

Here you will be able to download a copy of our risk assessment which can be used for your own records and trip planning.

Please return here, closer to the date of your trip to download our risk assessment.

Student data

Please ensure you have sent us all requested student data before the day as this is essential for participation in the event. If you are not sure what data needs to be provided, please ask your designated officer.

Teacher Role on the Day

Widening Access staff will run all activities throughout the day. However, students remain the responsibility of the school at all times and we expect staff to support with behaviour management. Previously, it has been noted that the students get the most from these days when school staff are engaged on the day.

Travel

Coach bookings are organised by your school. Please book as early as possible and let us know when you have secured your coach.

Once the trip has taken place, you will need to provide a copy of your coach invoice and your student data, for us to reimburse your costs to the agreed value.
